DSDU 2nd Anniversary Blog Hop

Welcome to the Dark Side DownUnder 2nd Anniversary Halloween Blog Hop!

Yes, it’s been two years since the DSDU blog first went live and to celebrate we’re holding a fabulous Halloween Blog Hop with heaps of giveaways on offer. Each author in the linky-link below is offering a prize on their own blog PLUS if you leave a comment on each blog in the hop, you’re entered for the
Grand Prize of a $30 Amazon Voucher!

So, since this is such a cool blog hop, I feel that I must share a little secret with you all. You see, when it comes to scary things I’m the world’s biggest wimp. Yes, truly I am. It started at a young age when my father thought it would be a good idea to introduce me to Doctor Who. It wasn’t and I spent most of my childhood convinced I would be attacked by Daleks or turned into some kind of alien grasshopper!

As I got older, things got worse. First, I made the mistake of reading The Shinning, by Stephen King and then I followed it up by trying to watch the movie, The Exorcist. Of course, none of this would be a problem if I didn’t foolishly write a book called, Zombie Queen of Newbury High, which has led to people assuming that I LIKE zombies or other scary creatures!!

But I did write the book and each year I always get asked my thoughts on Halloween! So now you know – though I must say that while I don’t like scary things, I am enormously fond of candy!

Anyway, in order to celebrate Halloween and DSDU’s second year I’m going to give away a copy of Zombie Queen of Newbury High and to win, all you need to do is tell me what is the scariest book, movie or TV show that you have ever seen or read.
Don’t forget to leave your email addy with your comment so you can be contacted if you’re a winner.

  1. LOL – yep, you definitely will get the questions re Halloween since you wrote about zombies. I love the Zombie Queen of Newbury High – it’s hilarious – which goes to show what you DO love to write. I always think there can be no dark side without a lighter side. :)

  2. Eleni – I know – I didn’t think that book through at all! Though, actually I did a Skype talk the other day with a book club that was reading it for their Halloween book, which was pretty cool!!!! And yes, I can see that Luke and Darth have taught you well!!!!!!

  3. Haha, I watched most episodes of Doctor Who when I was a child either hiding behind the sofa or with a cushion over my face! Somehow it helped though I’m not sure how!

I remember going to see the original either Halloween or Friday the 13th at the movies and scaring myself silly. But the funniest thing was when I looked at my then boyfriend (now husband) and saw he was watching it with his eyes closed!!!

  4. Christina – see, we were buddies before we even met!!!! Doctor Who was so scary back then!!! And hehehehe about you’re lovely husband shutting his eyes (if mine did that it would be because he was asleep!!!!)

  5. Jenny – I’m pleased to see that we feel as one on the matter!

Imogene – I just went and looked at that movie on IMDb. I’m scared already (though I think my husband would love it – he is slightly braver than I am!!!!)

  6. OOOooopppssss I am the total opposite. I LOVE LOVE LOVE SF & horror movies. As kid I never missed an episode of Dr Who if I could help it. I even used to sneak out Friday and Saturday nights to watch TV after Mum and Dad went to sleep. My mother caught me one night watching a vamp movie called Blood and Roses at 2am and you can guess what happened – NOT. My dad decided, in his wisdom (GO DAD), that I could stay up and watch the movies with him ‘cos Mum hated them and he was a closet horror aficionado

  7. Cujo. Shudders. Watched it as a young teenager with a friend. Went out to their garage to get something and her father barked like a dog. We were inside that quick it wasn’t funny.

  8. Natasha – you and your dad sound like my husband. He loves horror, not that it gets to watch it very often because of his wimpish wife!!!!

Emmad – eeek. I was always too scared to watch that movie. I feel vindicated now!!!!

  9. This is going to sound really bad…I’m not sure if I even want to admit this…The movie I’ve found the scariest is ‘I know what you did last summer.’
There’s no way I can get through a scary TV series!
I might write on the dark side, but there’s not too many scary movies I can watch – I just get scared way too easily!

  10. Growing up there were lots of things I saw that scared me these days thoguh movies like Scream and I know what you did last summer the horror movies with realistic killers scare the pee out of me lol

  11. Lillianna Rose – I haven’t watched that movie (for obvious reasons) but I’m the same – I’m very limited on what scary movies I can watch. My husband insisted on us watching The Woman in Black the other day and that scared the stuffing out of me!!!

Flanagan – I loved the Scream movies – though they were definitely scary, but it was cool because they were so smart!

  12. Those Dr Who episodes seemed so REAL when I was young, when I look back now and watch those paper mache machines beeping out ‘exterminate, exterminate,’ I can’t help but giggle.

Scariest movie – almost any alien movie I’ve ever watched LOL

  13. Mel – I know! I saw one a few years ago and realized that the whole set was wobbling!!! And as for Alien – after the whole John Hurt thing I had to stop watching. That was sooooooooooooooooooooooo freaky!!!!!

  14. I watched 5 minutes of Freddy vs Jason during the day and had nightmares for a month! I was about 12 at the time but I still think it would give me nightmares if I watched it again.

I also watched Jeepers Creepers 3 times. First time I watched it was at the cinemas and I had a lot of toilet breaks and searches of the cinema floor for “lost things”

  15. For me, it is toss up between The Omen and The Excorcist. I had to sleep with the lights on after I watched those movies.
