GCC presents Mindi Scott

Today I’m touring Mindi Scott and her new book, Live Through This. And I hope you all go and check out her website and read the story of why Mindi wrote this book and then go and tell her that she is wonderful!

About the book:

Sometimes hiding the truth requires more than a lie . . .

From the outside, Coley Sterling’s life seems pretty normal . . . whatever that means. It’s not perfect—her best friend is seriously mad at her and her dance team captains keep giving her a hard time—but Coley’s adorable, sweet crush Reece helps distract her. Plus, she has a great family to fall back on—with a mom and stepdad who would stop at nothing to keep her siblings and her happy.

But Coley has a lot of secrets. She won’t admit—not even to herself—that her almost-perfect life is her own carefully-crafted façade. That for years she’s been burying the shame and guilt over a relationship that crossed the line. Now that Coley has the chance at her first real boyfriend, a decade’s worth of lies are on the verge of unraveling.

In this unforgettable powerhouse of a novel, Mindi Scott offers an absorbing, layered glimpse into the life of an everygirl living a nightmare that no one would suspect.

About Mindi:

1 How did you come up with the idea for this book?  I’ve actually written a letter for readers and posted it on my website explaining this in detail. (http://mindiscott.com/index.php/2012/07/18/a-letter-to-readers-why-i-wrote-live-through-this/)The basic gist, though, is that I put off writing this book for years because I thought someone with more distance from the subject could do it better. One day, I realized that that wasn’t the case and that I needed to write this book.

2 What’s been your favorite author moment so far in your career?

My favorite author moment is repeated every time a reader contacts me to say that my writing moved them!

3 It’s Oscar speech time! Who are the three people that you would most like to thank for helping you write this book?

My husband, Dwayne. My editor, Liesa. My agent, Jim.

4 Describe a typical writing day

Ha! I don’t know that I have a typical writing day at the moment. My writing all takes place on my home desktop computer, though.

5 Tell me one strange random fact about this book.

My editor and I had a lengthy (good-natured) debate last year about a milkshake flavor in the book. I was insistent that it be strawberry—for no good reason. The fact that that discussion happened at all was strange in and of itself. But just the other day, I heard from a friend I’ve had since middle school who randomly reminded me that I’d associated strawberry ice cream with a traumatic event when we were younger. Very bizarre that I was clinging to the idea of the strawberry shake, having consciously forgotten about the long-ago significance.
